Praise has been heaped on TCL for its ‘amazing’ work landscaping the sales area of a development of three- and four-bedroom homes for Taylor Wimpey in Hyde, Manchester.
Sales manager for Taylor Wimpey Manchester, Rachel Barber, has written to the team to thank them for their effort and dedication in creating an impressive showhome area at Clarendon Woods.
“A massive thank you to the team. It really does look amazing. You can see that there has been a lot of care and time taken when landscaping the sales area. It really shows off to customers what they can do with a garden with levels. Really happy with the results and cannot thank the team enough for all their efforts and dedication.
“Can’t wait for the next project! Thanks a million,” wrote Rachel.
TCL’s regional relationship manager Sophie Kelly explained: “Every Taylor Wimpey show home has a story. The sales team decide on who the potential buyers are – so for example a couple or a family with children. The interior of the home is designed with that target market in mind and we create a garden to match. For example, it wouldn’t make sense to create a contemporary garden for a countryside home.
“The sales home in question on this occasion was for a family but with a sloped garden - so we needed to create a low maintenance garden that was usable, we did this by creating a tiered area with composite decking. We chose composite rather than timber for two reasons.
“One – it is grey which is very much the colour for interior décor at the moment. And secondly, as the show home is likely to be used as a marketing tool for the coming four years, over the life of the development, it needed to stay looking pristine for some time.”
Other features included planting a Christmas tree in the garden – a strategy likely to be duplicated across other homes on the development. Again, this serves a twofold purpose. One is that Taylor Wimpey were pushing a “move in for Christmas” package, so adding festive lights lent a seasonal frisson to the marketing campaign. And, as the show home will be used for several years, it means the tree can be au naturel for much of the year and dressed up every December.
The TCL team also made use of existing mature trees in the sales area by adorning them with solar powered fairy lights to add extra, all year round, ambience after dark.
Taylor Wimpey is one of a number of big name developers who have been learning how to create maximum visual impact for speedier sales via a TCL Group CPD training programme.
The free sessions, created by landscape architect Andy Danns from the Covey Design Centre, part of the TCL Group, are aimed at helping housebuilders’ commercial teams see how investment in good quality landscape design can make a difference to the bottom line.
Sophie Kelly explained: “The aim of landscaping is to help developers sell houses. While we are well known as a landscaping delivery specialist, some clients are unaware that we offer a design as well as a physical implementation service – and that we can offer the whole design and deliver package from start to finish.
“We have discovered that some developers have been disappointed after landscape designers have specified very small plants which, while they will be impressive in a few years’ time, do not have the immediate ‘wow’ impact required to sell the properties.
“Our CPD module, which is aimed at commercial directors and managers and quantity surveyors, looks at ways to maximise visual impact by using a small number of statement plants rather than a vast swathe of non-descript alternatives for the same cost.”
“It shows, for example, how to create a street scene. In a world where smaller front gardens are the norm and trees are therefore not practical, clever use of specimen shrubs can provide instant height and structure.
