Children at a school in Telford had a special surprise when they started their autumn term.

Not only did they enjoy an exciting new pond garden secretly installed by TCL during the summer holidays, they also had a surprise visit from CBeebies’ favourite gardening star Mr Bloom!

TCL teamed up with Redrow Homes to create the wildlife haven at Priorslee’s Redhill Primary Academy, which included a pond with a `dipping’ area, a firepit/bbq zone and a selection of wooden teepees.

TCL senior operations manager, Carl Maddocks, said the day was exciting for the staff as well as the children, as Mr Bloom, played by actor Ben Faulks, is an Alan Titchmarsh for the next generation.

“We were so proud to partner with Redrow Homes to create this great nature getaway for the children of Priorslee. It was lovely to see the kids’ faces as we unveiled the new garden that was installed in secret during the holidays, especially when Mr Bloom appeared from behind the screening.”

The cheery TV gardener wears a woolly tank top, dances in his wellies and chats to knitted vegetables in his garden nursery.

Margaret the cabbage who wears dangly earrings, Raymond the butternut squash, Sebastian the aubergine and Joan the fennel are among his woolly chums.

“It was really quite a day for all of us,” added Carl.
