A seven-year-old girl whose dream is to create a wildlife haven outside her Surrey home has been given a helping hand by Burleys’ arboricultural team.

Alice is part way through achieving her vision of transforming the green in front of her home in Merstham and has so far overseen the planting of trees, the creation of a wildflower area and the addition of a bug hotel.

And Burleys, which looks after the land for the Raven Housing Trust, stepped in to create a bench from a tree they had felled.

Both Alice and the RHT are delighted with the final result and the enthusiasm of Burleys to take part in helping her achieve her dream.

Burleys arboricultural specialist Dave McCaffrey explained: “I was happy to help and the guys did me proud, with Joe Goddard in particular doing a fantastic job with the bench.”

RHT estate inspector Jordon Guenigault was overjoyed. “It was delightful how keen you were to be involved and greatly appreciated that you gave your time to sort not only the creation of the bench but also the logistics of getting the timber from one site to another.

“The team put in a lot of work and Joe took real care when creating the bench, making sure it was spot on. It looks stunning and is very much in keeping with the rest of the work Alice has done.

“Alice’s Dad was very excited for her to see it. All in all you and your team really went above and beyond. The project ran flawlessly and was a total success.”
