Come and Plant a Tree - Setting some roots in Woodlands Park, Brickhill, Bedfordshire

Brickhill's new country park got off to a roaring success on Sunday 13th March with the first community 'plant a tree' event. Hundreds of people turned up for the event to plant their tree within the new 34 hectare country park.

Bedford Borough Council organised the event in association with Persimmon Homes (Midlands), Taylor Wimpey (South Midlands) and TCL and was designed to get Brickhill residents involved with the Country Park. The planting was part of the installation of Phase 1 of the Country Park to be completed during 2011, upon completion the Country Park will include play areas and sports facilities as well as wide expanses of grassland, trees and wild flower areas.

Writing to thank TCL for their involvement, Simon Fisher, Bedford Borough Council's Greenspace Manager said "the event went so well the main problem was finding the space to accommodate the planting of all the people who turned up".

Simon Hollis, from TCL, said "I couldn't believe how many people came to the event, it was a great occasion and a tremendous boost for this project. I believe one family even had three generations of family members planting".
