Burleys invites Newhaven residents to join Great British Spring Clean

Newhaven residents are being urged to join Burleys volunteers in the Great British Spring Clean next month.

The annual event, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, will see 400,000 people UK wide helping to clear up litter in towns, villages, beaches and the countryside.

Burleys’ contribution to the campaign will see members of the team join forces with Newhaven Town Council to donate their time and energy in cleaning up the area around the railway station on Friday March 2.

As a member of the Sussex Community Rail Partnership, which also includes Southern Railway and Newhaven Port Authority, Burleys has been playing an active role in improving the area over the past couple of years.

It took part in a litter pick and grass cut in the area as part of 2016’s “Clean for the Queen” and maintains a selection of planters which add a dash of colour to the station.

The Great British Spring Clean begins at 10am and continues until 1pm. Residents are invited to report for duty at the Newhaven Town Council offices, 18 Fort Road, Newhaven BN99QE. Anyone with hi vis jackets or vests, sturdy gloves, spades or litter pickers is asked to bring their own, although some will be available to borrow on the day.
